Privacy Policy

MoodChef ("we", "our", or "the app") is built with your privacy in mind. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Data We Collect
MoodChef uses Apple's on-device SFSpeechRecognizer to convert your speech to text. This processing happens entirely on your device — your audio is never sent to our servers or stored anywhere. The resulting text transcript is sent to our API proxy solely to generate recipe suggestions and is not retained after the response is returned.
If you are a Premium subscriber, your recipe history is saved locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use iCloud backup (controlled by your iOS settings).
A simple daily request counter is stored locally on your device via UserDefaults to enforce the free-tier limit (3 requests/day). No usage data is sent to external servers.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not require you to create an account.
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any identifying information.
- We do not track your location.
- We do not store your voice recordings.
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
3. Third-Party Services
MoodChef uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:
Your transcribed text is sent to a Cloudflare Worker, which forwards it to Google's Gemini API to generate recipe suggestions. No personal identifiers are included in these requests. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Free users see ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve personalized ads in accordance with your device's ad tracking settings. Premium subscribers see no ads. See Google Ads Privacy Policy.
In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment information. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
4. Microphone & Speech Recognition Permissions
MoodChef requests access to your microphone and speech recognition only when you tap the voice button. You can revoke these permissions at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone / Speech Recognition. Revoking microphone access will disable the core functionality of the app.
5. Children's Privacy
MoodChef is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
